Tara Brach shared this fairy story in the interview with Gabor Maté & Jack Kornfield, it was given to her by one of her clients. The fairy story describes that the little girl was in this closet shaking out of fear of another attack from her alcoholic father and she prayed and called on for help. This good fairy appeared and said, "I can't really help you get rid of all the pain. But what I can do is send it to different parts of your body and kind of tamper it down so you won't feel it so much." She went ahead and did that and the little girl said, "But are you going to leave me?" And she said, "I'll leave a voice in you and that voice will be a calling back to wholeness. Even though you won't feel the pain as much and you'll act in ways that are functional but don't maybe look so good, that voice will call you back to wholeness. When you're ready, when you have the resources, you'll start unpacking and twisting and undoing that pain and reconnect with your wholeness. Your wholeness has never been taken away. Your soul is always there. It's just been covered over.”
I wanted to share this beautiful fairy story, first of all, because I love fairy stories, but truly because I felt that it speaks directly to my heart. When I heard it, my heart literally reacted, I felt a kind of sting followed by a lump in my throat. So I knew I felt identified with the fairy story. I think so many of us, if not all of us, can relate and recognize that we were all visited by the same fairy. Some of us have been able to listen to the calling back to wholeness and started the journey, the process of recognizing all the pieces and gluing them all back inside of us. Identifying our inner resources, and acquiring new ones, like a never ending kintsugi work.
Some may have too much noise around or inside, that aren’t able to hear the calling. But I want to believe that the calling is always there and we just need some quiet moments to be able to listen.
In my good-willed spirit I want to believe that by reading this story will allow some people to pause, and consciously take the time to listen inward and eventually identify the calling for wholeness, or for truth. Those silences can be enhanced by meditation and mindfulness practices. It also helps us to pay attention to talks about personal growth, reading everything that feels nurtures our being. Also practicing exercises such as hiking, yoga, running, walking. The paths are infinite and the more resources we integrate, the more golden our work will be.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read me.
